On the Farm:

Activities flourish on the farm with the awakening of the spring season as bulbs peak out from under the ground and are occasionally surprised by the return of a brief snowfall.

A favorite of our guests is the return of our evening campfires. We resume this event here as soon as the snow melts off enough to get through the backyard to the fire ring, and continue until the snow returns the following winter. With virtually no man made lights out here in the country; stargazing is a sheer delight while enjoying the warm and gentle glow of the fire. Smores ingredients (chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers) are generously supplied for our fireside guests.

For the farm, it is a time to begin preparations for the upcoming planting season. Trays of seedlings can be found in the sunroom, we plant an expansive vegetable garden, and sow most of our own seeds for it. Because of the elevation here, our last frost date comes late in the spring. Unprotected tender vegetables are not set out until the after the last full moon in May, by using this measurement, the plants are safe from the tricks of old man winter.

Local Festivals:

In early spring, maple syrup production goes onto high gear. The Pennsylvania Maple Festival is held in Meyersdale just 15 miles away. In May, the National Road Festival brings covered wagons and centuries of history to nearby US40, the National Road.

Outdoor Adventures:

With the snowmelt comes the rising water in the Casselman and Youghiogheny rivers. This results in excellent conditions for white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing. With Class I through Class V rapids covering from over 7 to 11 miles, this is a time no white water adventures wants to miss. The main launch sight for the Casselman is just one mile from Four Seasons Guest Farm and Ohiopyle is about 20 miles away. There are a number of local outfitters which provide full water experiences.

Hunting is enjoyed as spring gobbler season comes in for a month in the April- May time period. There are several flocks of turkeys within a 2-mile radius of the farm and plenty of open areas to hunt nearby.

Fishing can all be enjoyed with local and native stocked trout just a mile away in the Casselman River and in the state parks and many nearby streams and rivers.

Local Destinations:

Visitors from near and far flock to see the architectural marvels by Frank Lloyd Wright. We are truly privileged to have two of his masterpieces in our own back yard. Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, which run full, schedules throughout the spring, summer, and fall season.
